Fairlington is a historically significant condominium community located on I-395 a short distance from downtown Washington, DC. The community was constructed for defense workers and their families by order of President Franklin D. Roosevelt in response to the DC area housing shortage brought on by World War II. Fairlington is listed on the Virginia Landmarks Register and the National Register of Historic Places. Fairlington's nomination to the National Register of Historic Places identifies 1024 historical buildings in Fairlington and 30 residential unit types.
