Beachmound was built in 1897 by Henry I. Cobb for Benjamin Thaw Sr., (March 24, 1859 – August 20, 1933) a Pittsburgh banker and philanthropist. (Benjamin was the son of William Thaw and brother of Harry K. Thaw)
