Summer 'cottage' of Edith Wharton, author. Purchased in 1893 or 1897? from Robert Livingston Beeckman, politician and banker (April 15, 1866 – January 21, 1935) (52nd Governor of RI from 1915-1921), for $80,000. Wharton and Ogden Codman, Jr. redesigned the house and grounds and it became the basis for the book 'The Decoration of Houses' published in 1897.
