Attributed to Emperor Fasiledes, the seventeenth century structure was built by the Emperor during his reign (1632 - 1667). Located in the valley of River Qeha, it stands in a rectangular, stone walled depression, which is filled with water annually for the celebration of Timket (Epiphany). "It is celebrated on January 19 (or 20 on Leap Year), corresponding to the 10th day of [Tirr] following the Ethiopia calendar. Timket celebrates the Baptism of Jesus in the Jordan River." (Wikipedia)
