Wills Mountain's end is an approximate 1,500 foot drop to the creek below. Local legend states that an female Native-American and a local infantry man jumped to their death because of cultural difference that prevented them from being together, in the early 19th century. In 1899, a hotel was built just feet from the edge, called Wills Mountain Inn. At the time, Lover's Leap was a national park, which was decommissioned in the 1960's and is now privately owned. In the late 1920's, the hotel began to lose business, and its use turned toward the rehabilitation of mentally ill patients. It burned down in 1929 and only the outline of the stone structured building remains.
