Arden Gypsum Mines

Intricate tunnels of gypsum mines that go from one side of the mountain to the other.

A 2wd vehicle can take you right up to the mine entrances. If you choose to climb to the peak, there are great views of the Las Vegas valley, and the Spring Mountains to the east.
More fun digging for drywall. Back in the 1930's, this and it's sister site were active gypsum mines.

Approach from southern trails. Park at bottom and climb up or make a go at the washboard incline. (4wd recommended. If you spin your tires on the way up, you're probably buying new ones.)

The trail at the top is better suited for a dirt bike or a quad than for a street vehicle. Steep inclines and razor sharp rocks await your Michelins, and there's only a handful of places to turn around. (Which can be precarious, it's a LONG way down.)

Those who ascend to the peak can enjoy a spectacular view of the entire valley, as well as parts of Red Rock to the west.

Disclaimer: Caves and mines are dangerous.

  • I've spent a lot of time in this area, doing photo shoots and exploring. You couldn't pay me to go into those mines. The hillsides are very unstable and extremely dangerous.
