Since the most recent photos show the South Florida area just after it was struck by Hurricane Wilma in October of 2005, the City of Margate hauled away many of the fallen trees and large branches to this area. The trees were then hacked up into smaller pieces, and then shredded with large equipment into tiny pieces of wood mulch.
At least a half-dozen (or more) trucks were constantly supplying this zone with dead trees. Eventually, the mountain of mulch was quite impressive, standing at least 20-30 feet high. After a few months, it was all hauled away, and this area became park of Coral Gate Park.
