The theater first opened at the Art Electric Theater in 1909 built by the architect N. Blagoveshchensky.
The current building was renovated by F. Shekhtel between 1912 and 1913.
In 1921 it was called GosKino and was the first movie theater.
In 1931 it played the first talking motion picture.
In 1936 it showed the first color movies.
