1886 Neo-classical building by Edmund Bell with additions by Alexander Wiseman in 1908. This was the largest building to go up in Auckland and is very similar to the central Baptist Tabernacle in London. The portico is based on that of the Pantheon in Rome. Initiated by the Rev. Thomas Spurgeon (son of C.H. Spurgeon, pastor of the London Tabernacle). The interior has ceiling detailing by Charles Blomfield, the well known NZ landscape artist who was an elder of the church and ran a decorating company from a shop on Krd.
