Holy Birth place of Hindu Goddess Shree Renuka, mother of Lord Parshuram. One of the three and half Shakti Peethas of Maharashtra:- Renuka or Yellamma : "Mother of the Universe" or Jagadamba.
Legends say that Yellamma is the incarnation of Kali, who on one hand symbolizes the death of ego, and on the other hand is the mother who is compassionate about her children.

Yellamma is worshipped mostly in South India, including Karnataka, Tamilnadu, Andhra Pradesh and Maharastra, where the deity is known by many other names like :-
Mahankali, Jogamma, Somalamma, Gundamma, Pochamma, Mysamma,
Jagadambika, Holiyamma,
Renukamata, Yellu aai, and Renuka Devi

Shree Renuka Devi was daughter Renuka raja (King); She was originated from the fire of Yajna performed King. Later Shree Renuka Devi married with great Hrishi (sage) Jamadagni.
Hrishi (sage) Jamadagni was the son of Ruchik Muni and Satyavathi and had obtained the blessings of the gods by performing severe penance.
Mahurgad is famous fort in Nanded Dist.Maharashtra.
Mughal worrier Raibaghan is from Mahur.

  • Chandwad is a town located in the Nashik district in Maharashtra.There are many historical places like Renuka devi mandir, Chandreshwar temple and Rangmahal located in Chandwad. Chandwad is a tehsil in Malegaon subdivision of Nashik district in Maharashtra, India. It is historical place where Ahilyadevi Holkar's Rangmahal (fort) is situated. It is surrounded by big mountains and is like a hill station. Population is around 20000. Legend goes that Rishi Parashurama was asked by his father Jamadagni (known for his anger) to kill his mother Renuka. Parashurama ,being an obedient son, separated her head from body. The head landed in Chandwad near Nashik, while the body fell near Mahur. There is a scenic temple of Goddess Renuka on the outskirts of Chandwad. Similarly there are temples of Lord Ganesh, Mahadeo (Chandreshwar) and Goddess Kalika, the last two being on mountains.
