mountain, landslide
This is the satellite view of the huge landslide that in July 28, 1987 hit and destroyed the villages of S.Antonio, Morignone, Piazza. It caused also a number of deaths. Although the region was completely evacuated before the disaster occurred, experts did not consider that the small village of Aquilone could be reached by secondary landslide effects. As a consequence of the disaster, some houses were literally disintegrated by the massive air shift.
Even after some major works to avoid the creation of a lake due to the presence of river Adda, the landslide area still exhibits the power of this event. (Ale C. 2007)
