RAF Bempton was established as a Ground-controlled Interception site in 1940 and disbanded on 1 August 1945. An Air Ministry Experimental Station Type 31 Chain Home Extra Low site was established here in 1945, which closed on 1 November 1945. In 1949, it was again used as a CHL/CHEL site and was rebuilt in 1951 as part of the ROTOR Programme. The site was closed in 1972 and sold in 1980.
