RAF Spadeadam "Collinski" Airfield

United Kingdom / England / Haltwhistle /
military, Cold War 1947-1991, target (military)

A 'mock' Soviet airfield created here at Trowyshaw Rigg as a target for use during electronic warfare counter measures exercises as a part of functioning of the RAF Electronic Warfare Tactics Range.

Like some latter-day Cargo Cult this airfield is a fake, it's runways just bedrock exposed by digging away the surface soil (peat). So don't try and land a fixed wing aircraft here because you'll crash and burn! The aircraft parked around the real, but are in a state of disrepair.

Whilst Collinski airfield may be fake, the aircraft are most certainly not plywood mockups, they are indeed real aircraft !!
