This old medieval cross is a large polygonal timber structure round a stone pillar, with a pyramid roof.
" Also known as the Market Cross where dairy products were sold at Oakham Market. It is shown on Speed's map of 1611 and may have been a preaching cross also. Its peculiar five hole stocks are a notable feature."
The Butter Cross is Scheduled Ancient Monument and grade I. listed landmark.
