The former Union Village Shaker Community is now the site of the Otterbein Retirement Community. The Union Village Shakers sold the land to the Evangelical United Brethren Church (EUB) in 1912. Two of the original Shaker buildings, Bethany Hall and Marble Hall, still remain on the site.
Bethany Hall's construction began in 1844 as the Union Village Shaker Center's Family Dwelling. When completed in 1846, it was the largest brick dwelling in Ohio, containing one million bricks. In 2008 regional historians and preservationists temporarily blocked an effort to demolish Bethany Hall. However, it's fate is of continuing concern. The Western Shaker Study Group works to preserve and celebrate the history of the Union Village Shakers.
