Mary Lake is a reservoir created in 1861. Mary Lake was originally known as Falk Lake after one of the area's settlers, August Falkes. In 1930, St. Joseph's Catholic Church bought the land in the area and renamed it Mary Lake after the Virgin Mary. Mary Lake was bought by the City of Redding in 1982.
