Sihastria ( 'The Hermitage' ), Holy Monastery :: Christian Orthodox Monastery

Romania / Neamt / Agapia /
 monastery, orthodox christianity, interesting place

One of the most important Monasteries of the Orthodox Church ( Romania and abroad ); founded by the Metropolitan Varlaam Motoc of Moldavia in 1655. Wellknown in the entire Orthodox world as a 'home' of spiritual/mystical development and of Jesus' prayer practice ( the so-called 'Prayer of the Heart' ), started by seven hermits, Sihastria was, as well, - among others - the place where Elder Cleopas ( 1912 - 1998 ) spent an important period of his life, between 1964 and 1988. Some of his disciples still live in the Sihastria Monastery and abroad.
