This was basically an Army Reserve maintenance facility constructed during World War II. Rumor has it they maintained the NIKE Missile equipment that was scattered throughout Long Island. It was decommissioned in 1996 and demolished ten years later, currently being developed as senior housing.

  • I did some research, Nike Missile Sites in Nassau and Suffolk County were the following; (NY-20, Lloyd Harbor, NY), (NY-23, Oyster Bay) , (NY-24, Amityville/Farmingdale), (NY-25 Rocky Point/Brookhaven). Check out web site --> http://alpha.fdu.edu/~bender/NYsites.html - for more information.
  • Site is actually being developed as single-family homes - somewhere between 80-100 of them.
  • As a teenager I lived on Cedar Lane in North Bellmore and more than once the flatbeds carrying the missiles would accidently go down our street and have to be re directed to the base.LC
  • I lived on the opposite side which is Linwood ave, helicopters ,tanks all kinds of ordinance right in my backyard...literally.
