The Nobbies is a natural rock formation accessible from the main island at low tide.

With Seal Rocks nearby, the waters around The Nobbies are often haunted by White Pointer sharks, drawn to the seal population for food.

It is therefore advisable not to be trapped on The Nobbies when the tide comes in.

A large interpretive centre built on the bluff overlooking The Nobbies and Seal Rocks was the subject of some unpleasantness between the operators and the State Government. The centre closed down under suspicious circumstances and the derelict building now remains as a blight on this headland. It had a souvenir shop, a "historical" ride interpreting the journey of Bass and Flinders, and a very nice cafe with spectacular views across Bass Strait.

Silver Gulls nest here, and can be very aggressive in breeding season. Large Brown Snakes (deadly) have also been found in amongst the native grasses, drawn to the area by the promise of eggs and baby chicks.
