Built as the headquarters for the Gulf Oil Company, the Gulf Tower (originally called the Gulf Building) was designed by the firm of Trowbridge & Livingston and completed in 1932. Rising 44 floors and 582 feet above downtown Pittsburgh, the building was the tallest in the city until 1970.
