  • I'm truly glad the "festival marketplace" the Navy wanted to build here was nixed because I can't think of anything "festive" about Ford Island. The housing tracts and other developments ruining the historic character--let alone within spitting distance of where hundreds of sailors were drowned, burned, or blown to pieces--alone are a travesty. And what numbskulls thought a "festival marketplace" was a great idea? What's next, Navy? A master planned mixed use, live-work festival development on Mt. Suribachi? A beach volleyball festival resort at the bottom of Suicide Cliffs? A 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea festival sub ride around the Arizona?
