  • Currently, it's being called the "UW Tower".
  • The SAFECO Tower was purchased in late 2007/early 2008 by the University of Washington. It is now known as UW Tower. The building was purchased to keep the majority of UW offices in an area local to the University. A Seattle law prevents the UW from leasing more than 1/4 of the total office space in the area, so some offices have had to expand as far away as Northgate or Montlake. The purchase of the Tower allowed UW to centralize a large number of operations.
  • The current UW tower is used by dozens of departments including UW-IT, Payroll, Continuing Education etc. It was the tallest in U-District and can be seen from the UW campus. It is a landmark of UW and U District.
