Note: Please see the town of Likely for the story behind the name change from South Fork to Likely.

The fire lookout on Likely Mountain is a unique, one-third scale prototype that was installed by a Depression-era CCC crew, probably from the Little Meadows CCC Camp, about 11 miles to the northeast. During various firefighting eras, it has been staffed by personnel from Modoc National Forest, California Department of Forestry, and USDI Bureau of Land Management. It was staffed on a regular basis most recently by CDF until the late 90s, until illnesses caused by radiation poisoning were traced to the multitude of additional microwave dishes that were installed on the radio facilities in the early 90s.
