The Lace Market is an historic quarter-mile square area of Nottingham, England. Once the heart of the world lace industry, with many impressive examples of 18th Century industrial architecture, it is a protected heritage area. It was never a market in the sense of having stalls, but there were salesrooms and warehouses for storing, displaying and selling the lace. A modern, vibrant place for all kinds of people.

  • The industrial architecture of Lace Market is predominantly C19th which continued on into the early C20th. Few examples, other than some houses, remain from C18th. Plumptre Street takes its name from the location of Plumptre House, which preceded the industrial lace making factories. Today, the buildings are predominantly occupied by housing and offices.
