HISTORY OF THE HOSPITAL

The Govt. General Hospital, Karaikal is one of the oldest Hospitals in the Country. It was established in 1908 during the regime of the French. At that time there were only 4nos. of Medical Officers who attended all the cases, as there were no specialities at that time. Now the strength of Medical Officers is 52. Previously all the Community Health Centres and Primary Health Centres were under the control of this hospital. Consequent on the trifurcation in 1995 seperate heads of offices were posted,viz. Medical Superintendent for Govt. General Hospital, Karaikal, the Deputy Director(Immunization) for Primary Health Centres and Chief Medical Officer for Community Health Centre, Thirunallar. The bed strength of the Govt. General Hospital is 446.

FUNCTIONS / OBJECTIVES

* To give best treatment to the patients admitted in the hospital

* Patients are treated in the Casualty on round the clock basis

* Out patients are treated everyday

* There are 14nos. of departments to treat various types of ailments.
