night club, historic landmark
The last remaining remnant of the iconic Ambassador Hotel, which was otherwise demolished to build the current school complex.
Once a world famous nightclub, a portion of the historic Cocoanut Grove has been retained as part of the auditorium for the high school built at the site. In addition, the hotel's 1940s Art Deco entryway remains, directly below the Grove, as well as the adjoining 1950s coffee shop, designed by noted African American architect Paul Williams, which has been retained as a teachers' lounge.
