Built between 1923 and 1925 and designed by noted Buffalo architects Esenwein and Johnson, the Grand Hotel Niagara, also known as The Niagara, was a 12 story hotel with nearly 200 guest rooms as well as convention facilities.

Known as the The Hotel Niagara, John's Niagara Hotel, Park's Inn, The International, Days Inn-Falls View and Travelodge Niagara Falls during its long history, the hotel served as high-end lodging for visitors to the nearby Niagara Falls, including Marilyn Monroe and Joe DiMaggio while they were filming Niagara in 1952.

After being passed between numerous owners and national hotel chains during the 1980's and 1990's, the hotel was finally closed for overhauls and renovations. Under the ownership of Amidee Hotels & Resorts, the hotel was to be restored to its former luster to compete with the neighboring Seneca Niagara Hotel & Casino.

Placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2008, the hotel nevertheless remained vacant and under repair until 2010, when a burst water pipe caused significant damage. Shortly thereafter, Amidee Hotels & Resorts defaulted on their tax payments and the hotel was seized by the City of Niagara Falls.

Sold at auction in April 2011 for $1.25 Million, and then again in September 2011 to Toronto-based Harry Stinson, current plans call for the former Niagara Hotel to be restored with a rooftop ballroom added.
