Hamilton Beach (New York City, New York)

USA / New York / Lawrence / New York City, New York
neighbourhood, draw only border, residential neighbourhood

Hamilton Beach is a sub-neighborhood of Howard Beach in the New York City borough of Queens, NY. Though it is almost always considered part of the larger Howard Beach area, like Ramblersville it actually predates it's surroundings and still retains the character of it's early fishing village roots. Prior to expansion of of JFK Airport, this area was known as "West Hamilton Beach" - as there was an "East Hamilton Beach" on the other side of the IND Rockaway Line subway tracks which has been entirely demolished. Hamilton Beach has always been a working class, and predominantly Irish-American area though it has become more diverse and seen more expensive development in the last decade.

  • Your description is crap. Hamilton Beach is actually WEST Hamilton Beach and the East half was wiped out for JFK airport so many years ago I was maybe 4 or 7 I don't know as I did not live near it then. I believe JFK was still called IDLEWILD Airport, (spling?). Old Howard Beach is Howard Beach, New Howard beach is actually Rockwood Park, back in the mid 60's the section that was destroyed for JFK still existed as rubble. I know as I once took a bike ride over to it in the early 1970's and found to my utter amazement: streets, firepumps , light poles and the cankerous craters and debris of long gone houses. Looked like Dresden after a solid 2 day bombing strafing run. It is now a slum, it is NOT part of Howard Beach. There are still nice people who live there, but it is quite gross in the rainy season. sign me former resident of Howard's Beach.
