UPS Airlines Flight 2976 Crash Site (Louisville-Jefferson County, Kentucky)

On November 4, 2025, at 5:13 p.m., UPS Airlines Flight 2976 of the United Parcel Service (UPS) crashed after its left wing disconnected from the aircraft's left wing, which caught on fire, during takeoff from the Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport to its destination of Honolulu, Hawaii. The aircraft spitted out all of its 144 thousand litres of fuel everywhere at a speed of 186 knots (344 km/h) while crashing into businesses and warehouses. The trail of the following fire was a half-mile (0.8 km) long.

A total of 12 people were killed in the accident (one more person died in hospital on November 6): all 3 crew members (Richard Wortenberg, Dana Diamond and Li Truitt) and over 10 pedestrians on the ground, making it the deadliest UPS air disaster. The situation was described as "very dangerous" so a 1-kilometer exclusion zone from the crash site was declared. The Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport closed aswell until November 6, and UPS joined the investigation of the crash together with the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB).
