Sok Tsanden Gompa

Fortess-like monastery founded by the Mongolian Gushi Khan Tenzin Choegyal in the 17th century. It belongs to the Gelukpa order. "Sok" means "Mongolian". 650 monks lived here in 1959, when it was destroyed. Some monks refused to leave. The gompa was being rebuilt. About 250 monks still live here.

  • I'm not sure of the name but I have a like to a picture of what I believe appears to be this particular monestary, note the gold crown on the top of the structure and the architeture.
