Hatfield is an unincorporated census-designated place in Luce Township, Spencer County, in the U.S. state of Indiana. Its population was 813 at the 2010 census.
Once called Fair Fight, Hatfield was an established community by 1852. Named after James Hatfield, the town was virtually all agricultural into the 20th century. In 1907, a new rail line came through the town and created means for transportation that local residents did not have available previously. At that time, people began commuting by rail and motor vehicles to jobs in other places. Today, the southeast Spencer County town is home to several businesses and several churches.
Almost in the center of Luce Township, Hatfield and Richland are exploring options to design and implement a new sewer system. Those upgrades are prerequisites for continued growth of Hatfield, which sits in what is considered the Ohio River flood plain.
