Bost is a village in the Belgian province of Flemish Brabant and a submunicipality of the city of Tienen. Bost was an independent municipality until the municipal reorganization of 1970. It was then added to Tienen together with Oorsbeek. In 1977, the municipality of Tienen was further expanded with a large number of municipalities.
The oldest mentions of the village mention, among others, the lord Walterus dictus de Bost (1290) and Mertini de Bost (1321). The name is etymologically comparable to, among others, Bossuit (near Kortrijk) and Bossut (near Nijvel). The name comes from the Germanic buksothu, a collective of buks, originating from the Latin buxus (also called "box tree"), with Germanic evolution. The toponym Bost can therefore be explained as a collection of box trees.
