bridge, road bridge
Credit for the successful building of the Turnpike also goes to Thomas B. Manuel. Known as the “Father of the Turnpike,” Manuel was a former rancher turned Fort Lauderdale county commissioner, and later, chairman of the Florida State Turnpike Authority from January 1955 to January 1961. The old bridge was originally constructed in 1957, spanning the Caloosahatchee Waterway, and was rebuilt in 2003.
