Windmühlenberg

Germany / Brandenburg / Gross Kreutz /
 hill, place with historical importance

Otto Lilienthal made the first flights from this hill. It was in 1891.
The hill is 51 m above sea level.
The hill is actually called Spitzberg, but to this day it is called Windmühlenberg in the village, because at its western foot for many decades, also during Lilienthal's time, a windmill stood. Its owner was the miller Hermann Schwach. The windmill was dismantled in 1935. 100 meters below the mill, on the western slope of the mountain, there was a miller's house and barn.
The miller - as is documented - came to collect Lilienthal by horse-drawn cart at the Groß Kreutz railway station. They had to travel 3 kilometers to the hill via Krielow.
