The Indian School of Mines was formally opened by the Viceroy of India, Lord Irwin on 9 December 1926 as the first mineral technology institute in the country. The institute started course in Mining Engineering. Since than Mining Engineering Dept. is running at ground floor of the Main Building of ISM.
