castle, historic house
12th century Norman castle, built by Lord Maurice de Berkeley. King Edward II of England was murdered here in 1327.
The Barons gathered at Berkeley before travelling to Runnymede to meet King John and force him to sign the Magna Carta.
Dickie Pearce, family jester to the Earl of Suffolk, (and probably the last court jester in England) died in the Castle when he fell from the minstrel's gallery in the Great Hall.
Don't know if this performance got a laugh or not.
