Greater and Lesser Syunik Memorial - built in 2004 by architect Sevada Zakaryan, on the initiative of the former governor of Syunik Suren Khachatryan and with funding from Maxim Hakobyan. The idea of the monument was the unity of Greater and Lesser Syunik (historically Artsakh was also called Lesser Syunik). In 2007, a cros-stone was erected next to the monument indicating the entrance to the Republic of Artsakh. After Azerbaijan violated the truce declaration on November 9, 2020 and took control over the old route of the Lachin corridor on March 29, 2023, the monument came under the control of Azerbaijan. Soon this monument was called “illegal” and destroyed to foundation.
