In 2004 more than 20 passengers were killed by armed terrorists on the route Zabol-Zahedan. The memorial was built in memory of this crime. The terrorists were linked to the Taliban and called themselves Jound-u-Allah (meaning "the armies of God"). Their boss was a man named Abdolmalek Rigy , later he was arrested and punished.
