Moody Bible Institute ( MBI ) was founded by evangelist and businessman Dwight Lyman Moody in 1886. The campus, located in the heart of Chicago on the Near North Side, has remained at the same location chosen by Moody 120 years ago. MBI consists of three major ministries: education, broadcasting and publishing.

Over the years MBI acquired the right to close various city streets running through the campus. As streets were closed, MBI tunneled under them to create a private interconnected network of climate controlled below ground passageways employed by students, faculty and staff to move goods and commute between campus buildings during inclement weather.
