The Petrified Sea Gardens is a 500 million-year-old fossilized Stromatolite (cyanobacteria) ocean reef. At the time it was formed, this was at the shore of a warm tropical sea.
The area was once open to the public as a park but is now closed. The site is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, where it is designated a National Historic Landmark, as well as a National Natural Landmark.
