park, underwater, interesting place, historical layer / disappeared object
This is the original alignment of former Ontario King's Highway 2 (1917-1958). The original road and surrounding land was flooded when the Saint Lawrence Seaway was built in 1958. In addition ten communities (the "Lost Villages") were submerged, the largest of which being Iroquois (which was moved to Long Sault). The buildings in Iroquois were razed by the local fire department before the floodwaters came, for firefighting practice and training.
