The Tamina Therme, spa and wellness center is a historic building that was built in 1866 and became Europe's first thermal water indoor pool in 1872. On March 2, 2008, when the thermal baths were closed, it was demolished and rebuilt from scratch. On June 12, 2009, the new Tamina thermal baths opened on an area of 7,300 m2, offering a sauna landscape and beauty treatments and massages in 2015. The thermal baths have two indoor and one outdoor pools, a slide, a waterfall, a grotto and various whirlpool tubs, all fed by the 36.5°C warm thermal water from the Tamina Gorge, a thermal spring that has been known since the Middle Ages. Discovered in 1242, the thermal water has been flowing directly to Bad Ragaz through a four kilometer long pipe since 1840.
