factory, historical layer / disappeared object
This now former factory was originally owned by the Western Electric Company, which was a division of AT&T and opened in 1957. It produced telephone equipment and also housed a Bell Labs research division. Lucent technology had occupied the site until 2011 when the remaining staff moved to Dublin, Ohio. The manufacturing area of the building was demolished, and as of 2022 is awaiting redevelopment. Open grounds on the north end of the site were turned into housing starting in 2005 with the last plots built out in 2016. On the south end of the site, the office building was renovated and became the Mt. Carmel Corporate Service Center. Out parcels were also developed into office buildings and fast-casual restaurants.
