hills, National Natural Landmark
This site is an excellent example of an erosional remnant of soft clays and shales capped by a channel sandstone and quartzite; it also has a paleontological and historical record extending back to the visit of F. V. Hayden in 1853. The 298-acre area is designated a National Natural Landmark.
