The Launcher Area of the former Fort Hancock Nike missile site, active from 1954 through 1974 as part of the Cold War air defenses of the New York metro area. The site is now located within the Sandy Hook Unit of the Gateway National Recreation Area (U.S. National Park Service) and is undergoing a restoration. It is open for public tours on select days.
