archaeological site, city wall, ancient ruins

A section of the northern walls of ancient and medieval Kassandreia, a city founded in the late 4th century BC to replace ancient Poteidaia. The walls, terminating in a ruined tower surrounded by water, are the only readily visible remains of the ancient and medieval settlement. Parts of the course of the walls are built over by modern buildings and roads, and some of the foundations lie underwater.
