24 Upper Mall (now River House) was built in the middle of the C17th. It was rented by Catherine of Braganza for her household when she lived in the adjoining estate and it originally formed one dwelling with Number 22. Sir Nigel Playfair (1874-1934), actor and manager of The Lyric Theatre lived here.
