In 1880s, a Malay trader named Bachik Abdullah donated this piece of land for building a mosque. The mosque was completed in 1920s. Originally, the mosque was made of wood. Later in 1955 a proper mosque was built at a cost of RM214,000. RM124,000 comes from donation by people living in Kampung Baru while RM90,000 comes from state government.

In 2011, the government, through 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB), has allocated RM20 million to upgrade the mosque. The renovation will see the size of the mosque increased to accommodate a congregation of 5,000.
