Originally saltbox in form, the roofline of the Forbes house was modified at some later date, and rear additions were also completed. It was the home of Samuel Forbes, who was an important figure in the 18th century iron industry of northwest Connecticut. Forbes operated blast furnaces that supplied arms to the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War.
