Former location of what was once NYC's only Juvenile detention center. It was vacated by the prison bureau in 1998 yet continued as a private detention center until 2011 when it was ordered closed. Soon to be the location of a new residential highrise complex. The Spofford Center was frequently alluded to on Law and Order during episodes when juveniles were arrested for crimes.
